Mission Explorers 2
For years, it has been our dream to produce a new Mission Explorers video focusing on an individual country (yet to be chosen) in South America. We already have proposals out to several different countries. The plan is to hold audition parties at churches across the USA to choose the child who will be featured in the new video.

In the original Mission Explorers video, 11-year-old winner Hillary Welborn won a trip around the world in which we shot more than 100 hours of video. In the global series, Hillary introduces children to the history, geography and cultures of different peoples in Africa, India, Philippines, Fiji Islands and Bolivia while reporting on the inspirational activities of missionaries.

Mission Explorers: Hillary in Africa

The world's largest Christian publisher (Thomas Nelson Publishers) originally marketed Mission Explorers to thousands of churches. The series was a best seller of Nelson's church marketing division. For the last few years, Mission Explorers has been available for all to view at no charge at KidsTalkAboutGod.org. Church children's ministers continue to purchase the series in DVD format with curriculum. I mention this to show that this series has longevity. It was originally shot and produced in 1996. Churches and Christian schools continue to show the series to young children.

It has been 14 years since the first Mission Explorers. Hillary is now a college graduate, and one of the countries she visited has even changed names. Although people still love the original, we think it’s time for the sequel! Since God has prompted our hearts in that direction, we’re starting to think ahead about funding it.

The new Mission Explorers would follow approximately the same format as the original. There would be segments focusing on the work of missionaries and mission organizations in the South American country where the video is shot. To keep things moving, these would be alternated with highlights of the spectacular sights to see and fun things to do in that country, along with snippets on humorous observations. The idea is to have even the children with the shortest attention spans completely mesmerized. If you haven’t already seen the original Mission Explorers, you can always view it for free at KidsTalkAboutGod.org. That will give you a better idea of the format.

Mission Explorers: Hillary and Carey in India

One thing that hasn’t changed since the original Mission Explorers is the fact that making such a video involves a lot of expense. Various professionals must be hired, equipment purchased, transportation/hotels/meals for the entire crew paid for, including a separate, pre-production trip. There would also be expenses associated with the nationwide audition process for selecting the child who will go on the trip and be featured in the new video. If you’d like to see more details, we have an example of what the entire budget might look like if we chose Brazil for the new Mission Explorers video.

Sunday School Teacher Training in Egypt

Reaching Out to Needy Families in Egypt

A few months ago, we received a message from Egypt through KidsTalkAboutGod.org. It was from a Christian minister named Ragaee who works with an organization training Sunday School teachers and reaching out to needy children in Egypt. They are very impressed with the Kids Talk About God website, and all that it offers. They even invited Carey Kinsolving to come to Egypt and share his expertise at a teacher training conference. Here is what Ragaee wrote about his organization:

“We are a Christian organization in Minia, Egypt called Sunday School Training Institute (SSTI). We are working to help the children of some of the poorest families in Egypt. Our goal is to help them spiritually by bringing the Good News to them and by training Sunday School teachers and leaders who can teach and disciple them. Our goal is also to help them physically by helping to provide some basic resources for health, nutrition and survival. These families are in a very difficult situation. We cannot meet every need but we must do something! As a volunteer in Minia, Egypt, I am praying and asking others to help us reach out to these children and their families!”

Ragaee’s message has sparked an exchange of emails and Skype calls with Carey. Over the past few months, they have become fast friends. Carey is staying open to whatever God would have him do regarding this invitation. However, SSTI cannot afford to pay the travel expenses for Carey to come help with their teacher training. But we know that if God intends for it to happen, He will provide.
